Just watched a programme about these wonderful works, made in the last few years of his life when he was dying of cancer-his creativity just ratchetted up and up--became more simple, and pure in essence-he was asked if he believed in God and he said 'yes, when I work'...... we're all not Matisse it goes without saying, but he is a true example of [b]giving life to your days, when however long you live, you realise that the days of your life are finite....

And in an interview in May 2015, David Hockney talked about a Matisse Exhibition at MOMA in New York (perhaps the same one before it came to London?)

'There's something art can do for the soul that you can't really put into words...(Critics can be dismissive of art that makes people feel good- as they have been at times of Hockney's)...'Sod'em. that Matisse show was unbelievable. It was pure joy. Pure joy [b]
