Depression comes and goes..

This too shall pass..

All human beings are subject to ebbs and flows in feelings-

so how much more so when you've had a cancer diagnosis... however much people may exhort you to 'be positive', you may have down days when no amount of 'positive thinking' will get you through...so allow the depression in , and then let it flow out again: it will if you don't hang onto it.

This forum is here so that we can all post our thoughts about this: and I want to start by reminding us of the well-known story of the ancient king who asked his guru for a mantra to help him with his own 'down days'--his guru went away and then returned: he gave the old king a heavy gold ring, and engraved around it were the words THIS TOO SHALL PASS...

The dark shadows may lurk, and may darken your day when you least expect it: 'highs' may be followed by 'lows'--GETTING STUCK with either state can be a difficulty- HAVING CONVERSATIONS can help --see Atul Gawande on the 'Will you or Won't you' Forum about the huge value of talking 'if it was a drug it would cost millions of pounds'... so let it be, forgive yourself, and flow...

and ONLY for when you're ready, you could do worse than going on to the Mind and Spirit forum here, and seeing the posts about LAUGHTER...apparently (and I have tried this, it works) even if you FORCE the laughter at first, it gets you in to a better space..give it a try?
