The front page of the Daily Mail reports that GPs will face being struck off, if they are found to have been prescribing too many antibiotics. According to NICE, more than ten million antibiotic prescriptions are being handed out needlessly for common ailments including coughs, colds and hayfever, resulting in the drugs becoming powerless to treat lethal infections.
The article notes that NICE guidance also urges GPs to give patients ‘delayed-prescriptions.’ This news is also reported in The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent and the Financial Times.
